- The only thing worse than an amateur musician criticizing Southern musicians is a mis-informed Northern redneck. I wouldn't expect either to understand Southern mentality. Two clues: In 1974, Neil Young thought all Southerners owned slaves. And everybody except folks in Birmingham hated Governor Wallace, because he was SUCH a racist: "now we all did what we could do". Skynyrd had tons of black friends and followers. But again, a mis-informed redneck, Northern or Southern...wouldn't know that.
