  1. Oh ok, thanks.
  2. I think she's saying "I gotcha," meaning she understands tv time is running.
  3. I'm know I'm hearing this wrong, but it seems like after Pete interrupts her she says "I hate your song."
  4. such a great talent WOW!!!!
  5. WOW! this was incredible. I have never heard about this or her before, but this is music made from the buttom of the heart. just fantastic.
  6. "Truly, she was one of the world's great musicians, no matter what this condescending, racist man is thinking." Pete Seeger helped get Elizabeth Cotten and her peers on records and TV, which "whites" of his time generally were far from bothering to do, because he was anti-racist. Remarkable how your imagination manages to turn that upside down.
  7. "She's probably one of the best guitar players ever" In the same league as Blind Blake, you think?
  8. What an inspiration. Like pete said "You don't have to be a great singer, just have a desire to sing". This is why American Idol and that stuff is a bunch of over commercialized crap. This is why people do not pick insturments and learn to play and sing. It is really sad that music has to die because of it. All because you have to look or sound a certain way.
  9. Elizabeth Cotten, you are an incredible inspiration! Thank you so much.
  10. They'd probably be shaken by the idea of an old lady playing an upside-down guitar... Truly, she was one of the world's great musicians, no matter what this condescending, racist man is thinking.
  11. so good. i wish i was around in the 1960s
  12. that list was really just embarrassing to read, and a reaffirmation of how little rolling stone really understands about music!
  13. She's probably one of the best guitar players ever, yet when you see those bogus "best guitar players ever" lists from Rolling Stone or whatever, you'll never see her listed.
  14. CLASSIC SONG....
  15. Fantastic picking!!!
  16. If you mean that he cuts her off mid story I think its just keeping to the shows time limit. Also it might be that hes not complety comfertable amoungst his guests, like a middleclass guy trying to hang out with working class guys.
  17. thanks to share; very nice
  18. Even when Pete can't see the audience, he still makes them join in.
  19. man , ive watched a lot of these Seeger videos, and i totally think its rad and respect that he is exposing these amazing singers/artists to new people but i something about him just bothers me. maybe its his demeanor or something? I'm probably stating the obvious but i get i feeling that he thinks he is more divine than his guests.
  20. i pay her tribute in my video response, liz cotten is an incredible player!
  21. well right thats what i said that. i said shes playing a right handed guitar the way youd play a left handed one. if you dont flip it upsidedown the neck would just be sticking out behind you
  22. Reply to Tianshou88 Oct 20, 2008 not only is the guitar right handed, she's playing it upside down.... it's not been re-strung... but the thickest string is on the bottom - where it would normally be on the top. If you know your chords at all, you can see that her chord positions are upside down. truly amazing....
  23. her guitar style became known as cotten picking, no need for the thumbs down
  24. are any of these on DVD? That'd be great!
  25. oh liz cotten! your pointer can do what mine cannot!!
