    He's still young, it doesn't seem like he's ruled a God out completely... They may just be agnostic/borderline atheist. I'm the same age as them and I know a lot of people my age are agnostic. It's like you finally get to an age where you can make your own decisions and it's kind of natural to question what you believe and why you believe it. From the answers it kind of seems like they don't exactly know for sure the answer to that question.. I don't know if that really answered your question.
