- And as for other countries, I also suggest you look at Switzerland which has MANDATORY gun ownership, yet an extremely low gun crime rate. If you find yourself in the middle of a place where a madman decides to go on a massacre, or if an armed criminal breaks into your house, what do you want in your hand, a phone, or a gun?
- Well, it certainly seems to have been the solution in every place that's tried it. You can compare the US to other countries, but compare one part of the US to another. Every place in the US with strict gun laws has a high gun crime rate, while almost every place with lax gun laws has a low crime rate. Also, mix all the ethnic groups of the US together in another country and try to tell me the crime rate won't soar there.
- Actually, yes I do. Do you think it's coincidence that massacres like Columbine, V. Tech, Westroad Mall, or Luby's Cafeteria occur in gun free zones? No, because a gun free zone is an ideal place for a massacre. Tons of easy prey and nobody will shoot back. Your victims are sitting ducks.
- Even outdoors it's still not a guarantee you won't be able to get to your gun in time. And even indoors, you might not be aware of the attacker breaking in. The point is regardless of whether or not you can actually get the gun, you need one in case you can get to one.
- people protect themselves with guns every day, search armed citizen, policemen have a very dangerous job, and shotguns can make good home defense weapons. the fact that u r arguing with me about the effectiveness of shotguns as defensive weapons conflicts with your statement that u cant protect yourself with a gun.
- Mofo, citizens use firearms to defend themselves both in and out of their homes on a regular basis, so your claims of armed self defense being too difficult are rather hollow. The main problem is that you are giving criminals way too much credit. You seem to think that bad guys with guns can't lose, but good guys with the same guns can't win. In reality, criminals are usually untrained with firearms and can easily by defeated by anyone reasonably capable of defending themselves.
- Ok, I guess the two of us have undergone different close combat and urban combat training then. Point is that while you're inside your house and have the advantage of knowing the surroundings and stay undetected, weapons may be a good defence. Preferable shortbarreled and semi-automatic. Outside your house you don't have that advantage anymore as you never know who the attacker may be untill it's too late. Also an unexperienced person may not react according to training while under fire.
- It's actually7 in the dresser when I'm sleeping....the point IS to keep it nearby. That is going to be intertwined with your weapon familiarity. Weapons can be kept safe and away in a close space and deployed quickly with minimal (but smart) training. A common misconception by those not familiar with firearm function or practice.
- Mofo3210, in response to your question, "Would you rather have an attacker with a gun or one without a gun under the condition that you're both equally armed? I'll take the attacker with the gun. Criminals are notoriously innaccurate and naive. I'd place my stress-control and accuracy against his, before I put my brute strength against his, and I'm not a small guy. That, and not everyone's a 250 pound man you know. What does the 125 pound single woman do against her 190 pound assailant?
- Everyone, gun owner and gun victim alike should lock all of their doors at night. This isn't much of a deterent, rather, it's a warning. When they break that window or kick in that door, they've lost the element of surprise. So a criminal at no time should have the element of surprise when it comes to the homeowner. Kind of off-track to guns but I thought I'd throw that out there.
- Ok, I see your point. It's true that while inside your house you'll have the advantage giving the circumstances you are aware an attacker breaking in. However, outdoors or in a situation where the attacker can't be recognized at all before actually performing the attack you won't have this advantage, and considering the criminal maybe assumes you're armed he's more likely to use his weapon too.
- Ok, I see your point, but let's see it from the other side. Do school-shootings and other attacks on civilians happen because they are not armed? I don't think it's just that simple. I mean, compared to other countries USA by far exceeds comparable nations when it comes to policemen killed on duty, even though they are armed. Of course the criminals are armed as well, but the solution is not to pour more weapons into the society.
- Do you ever wonder why cops are only killed by guns while out and about instead of at the station? Why doesn't a criminal ever try to go on a massacre at a police station? Or a gun show? Or a shooting range? Because they'd be dead before they could even point the thing.
- An attacker might have the moment of surprise, but it's not a guarantee. You might hear them breaking in, in which case you have enough time to get your gun and defend yourself if need be.
- this is awesome
- Considering the fact that policemen are among the people most killed by guns I'm not sure how to interpret that. On the other side, an armed policeman is doing his job when carrying a gun and is prepared at all times to use it. For instance they usually load the gun and ready the holster for the least of suspicion. Should civilians do the same? Oh, by the way, a shotgun is not very convenient in close quarters unless it's sawn off and semi-automatic.
- can u hear yourself? scare people into protecting themselves. if someone broke into your house in the middle of the night would u be afraid? would u not be less fearful if u knew that u could protect yourself? having a gun can greatly increase your chances of survival
- u cant keep a criminal from getting a gun by changing the law, they break the law.Oh, and i prefer to keep my shotgun beside my bed, that way if i hear someone breaking in i can fill him with buckshot, end of threat, how do u think cops protect themselves with guns? they dont keep them drawn constantly.
- How do you protect yourself with a gun? Do you sleep with it under you pillow, or keep it next to you front door in case someone rings the bell? The attacker always has the moment of surprise, so unless you constantly walk around with your gun drawn it won't help you much. The attacker however, would know that he has to be at least equally armed. So what do you prefer, an attacker with a gun, or one without a gun?
- Sorry, you have me confused with someone else. I don't have a "facility" right now and do not have any courses scheduled.
- Hey LoneWolf. My husband and I just did last weekend at your facility. We will be prepared to protect ourselves. I encourage everyone to train to protect themselves just to go on living.
- Please take a Personal Protection Class. If you wait for someone to point a gun at you, then you are dead. Your reaction CANNOT beat their action. Trust me, I do this for a living.
- I do have a gun. But i can only use it for protection just in case if the other guy was trying to kill me with his gun that's if he tooked aim at me first. my gun is a nighthawk.
- Proper gun control is hitting your target in tight groups!
- Very good video. Criminals will always obtain weapons the illegal way. Thats why they are criminals to begin with. To keep those of us that obey the law from obtaining weapons is retarded.
